Levan R. Scott

Levan R. Scott Academy opened in 1955 as Southern Heights Elementary School. The school’s original name came from the neighborhood where the school was located. In 2000, the school was renamed for Dr. Levan R. Scott, who served Fort Wayne Community Schools for 28 years, retiring in 1986 as assistant superintendent in charge of administrative services. In 1965, Dr. Scott was named the city’s first African-American principal as he took the lead job at McCulloch Elementary School. In each position Dr. Scott held, his focus was justice and equality for the students and staff.

Scott Academy is a Title I school. The English Language Learners (ELL) program is offered to students for whom English is a new language. Students attending Scott feed into Miami Middle School and Wayne High School. The school is located in Board of School Trustees District 5.
